Without a Sip

This project started when a familiar ritual disappeared. Drinking coffee had been part of my daily routine for a long time. Not just the coffee itself, but also the small actions around it give structure to my day. The coffee cups have their own place in that routine. The way a cup feels in the hand, influence my choice of a cup in a specific moment. When I decided to stop drinking caffeine, my relationship with these objects changed as well. The cups lost their original function and became disconnected from everyday use. Instead of drinking coffee, I started observing and printing the cups. Through the slow and manual process of carbon printing, a new daily structure began to form. By working with gelatin and pigments that refer to coffee tones, the work developed through a process-based way of making.
