Turning tension into form
The moment a corn kernel pops, marks a shift from tension to release. The kernel begins closed and hard, slowly building pressure under heat, until it finally bursts open and changes into a softer new form. The corn kernel becomes a metaphor for an internal tension that gradually builds beneath the surface. At first, this tension remains contained and without a clear form. But because of external forces, it eventually reaches a point where it needs to release itself. Through this process, the work looks at the transformation of built-up inner pressure that can no longer stay contained.
